The directions were fairly simple to follow and the final product looks good. My only issue was with the holes provided to secure the bedframe. The holes in the headboard did not fit the bed frame I had, so I had to hire a handyman to secure my frame to this headboard. This is the second headboard that does not seem to accommodate various heights of bedframes. I do not know the solution to the problem, but engineers - please take notice!Replacing an 11th hour order for another headboard because this one looked sturdier with proper L-shaped stands and a larger wood plank, I promptly ordered.First, protecting the inside with a plastic layer around the veneered wood is much appreciated should the delivery folks leave the packaging out where it can get rained on!Read the instructions twice - the stand can be set up with side shelf on either left or right side. Not all numbered panels are consistent with layout of "A" and "B", I recall one reversal but all in all it's not that bad. If you ever need to swap the side shelving to the other side, the fair part of the whole headboard needs to be disassembled. This also includes the middle plank, so do not nail the cardboard backing directly into it unless you'll never switch shelving on the sides. Some pieces didn't fit flush, chiefly the two "Q" brackets with the holes - they are higher by a mm or so. That's a given with these kits. I've seen slightly better but I've seen far, far, far worse. The stand still sits on its own, and it will be attached directly to the bed anyway. The top of the bookshelf part holds up to 10 pounds so don't put up too many books or let too many cats jump on top of it at any given time. The cardboard has a hole for electrical cords to go through. If you need to route a cable through a side shelf, a drill will be needed.I wish the headboard had felt stickies for the feet but that's a quick purchase. The long shelf in the middle, my guess is that it will droop or sag in the middle after a couple of years even if nothing is perched on it. But that's pressed wood in general. Having one or two planks of wood to prop up the bottom would negate that. Just some simple DYI after buying similarly colored wood from a lumber store and playing with the saw. What amused me most are the self-tapping wood screws used to attach the headboard to the bed or its frame. My frame only works with bolts. Bolts would have been more universal, but the holes are large enough to easily allow a 8mm x 30mm machine screw to be used. If 30mm (appx 1.2") is too long, there are shorter versions. 10mm might be too thick, but even 8mm is still greater in diameter than the self-tapping 2" long screws that came with the headboard.I'd buy it again knowing the details and caveats. It's sturdy.Took two of us an hour to assemble. This is very heavy. You definitely need to people working on it. The instructions were not clear at allllll. It took me over half hour trying to figure out which part goes with which screws and bots. Too many individual weird looking screws and nuts and bolts. We managed to put it together and my daughter likes it.It's all about you get what you pay for. The wood quality isn't that great. Many of the edges and corners chipped off and kind of crumbled when assembling. I wasn't going to return this massive piece back so I painted the chipped bits with white paint. I had to really be careful when putting this piece together because the wood quality is not good at all...we purchased the white one so every little scratch and chip reveals the compressed wood underneath the paint. Oh well, it's okay for kids room...This was a beast to try and put together. Overall though for the price it’s good.My husband bought the platform bed from South Shore and I bought this headboard to go with it. We like having a lot of extra book storage. However, the boards arrived a bit more warped than I would have expected and the veneer is chipped in a lot of places. Some boards which should be flush aren't and there is a corner where the boards don't quite come together so that there's a noticeable gap. The headboard also does not have a sturdy connection to the bed. Overall I'm definitely a bit disappointed but at least the result is a usable headboard. The bed has some issues as well.Press board but thick and pretty solid. Couple pieces weren't labeled, but it worked out. I assembled by myself in place as I wouldn't be able to lift it alone. I have it behind my freestanding motor operated head lift bed; works out fine. The shelves are not adjustable and great for eye glass's and clickers but not much else will fit. Just tall enough for a TP roll. Over all worth the money I would say.The directions were so so. What I didn't like is the fact that one of the boards had damage on it upon arrival. I didn't want to mess with returning it so I made sure he put that end on the side of the bed you can't see from the doorway. Its thick particle board with veneer on it. I guess for under $200 you get what you pay for. Looks nice put together though. The product came damaged even though it said, “used, box is damaged.” Some of the boards were actually damaged and you could see where someone tried to put it together and pieces were broke off in the boards. After it was assembled, we went to put the shelfs in and one shelf board was missing, but it was fine, because there were no holes for the pegs to hang the missing shelf and the long shelf provided. But the headboard is serving its purpose, so that’s why it’s getting 3 stars. I’m not happy that when I purchased the item it said “Used, Like New,” then in an email it said the box would come damaged, never did it say that pieces would be damaged and parts broke/missing. Just a bummer. Happy with this purchase. I have a double bed, bought the queen size. I think the double size would have been too small. Only problem we had putting it together is there was no hole where it should have been. My son drilled a hole, carefully matching the hole properly. And he was able to attach to bed. Nice quality. Very happy with this.I think it's expensive for what it is.The material is really thin particle board and if one were to mount it to a bed frame it would surely crack and break. This headboard looks great (we paired it with the South Shore Vito 60-inch queen sized mates bed). Took quite a while to put together as I was doing it by myself (and I'm a 24 year old female with no muscles!) but I managed to do it, so anyone can! The instructions were very clear and all the pieces were in great condition (the company packs everything super well!). The headboard looks great and attaches securely to the bed, so it feels very sturdy.Bought this to compliment the bureau & nightstands from the same company (South Shore). Looks good assembled, higher quality than I expected.Only problem was with the assembly instructions (there are 2 ways to put it together, depending which side you want the cubby hole on).Found myself having to take it apart to correct mistakes in assembly.
